Adhesives for Films and Difficult Surfaces

Product: Brookfield Viscosity  Solids Content

Makrolep A-1000 Adhesive

A modern synthetic adhesive based on a styrene-acrylic copolymer. Its excellent adhesion makes it suitable for bonding paper, cardboard, and paperboard to difficult substrates such as polyolefin films, PVC, and aluminum. Once dry, it forms a transparent, flexible, and durable bond with a short setting time. The product contains no organic solvents and is safe for indirect food contact. Its low viscosity makes it suitable for high-performance machines with nozzle application. Its high solids content provides fast initial grab.

Application: production of decorative or food packaging, bonding difficult surfaces to paper.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. wheel, roller, nozzle).

800–2,000 mPa∙s 50–55%

Makrolep ES Adhesive

An economical adhesive for difficult surfaces based on a water-based polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) dispersion and styrene-acrylic copolymers. Its high adhesion makes it suitable for bonding a wide range of materials, from paper and cardboard to polyester, PVC, and aluminum films. Once dry, it forms a transparent, flexible, and durable bond with a short setting time. Versatile in application and safe for indirect food contact.

Application: bonding paper to difficult surfaces, paper-to-film lamination.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. wheel, roller).

8,000–12,000 mPa∙s 50–55%

Makrolep AX Adhesive

An adhesive based on a styrene-acrylic copolymer. Particularly recommended for bonding film windows into food and decorative packaging. It offers excellent adhesion to difficult surfaces, including polyolefin films and coated papers. It has pressure-sensitive adhesive characteristics. Once dry, it forms a transparent, flexible, and durable bond with a short setting time. The product contains no organic solvents and can be diluted with water.

Application: production of decorative or food packaging, bonding difficult surfaces to paper.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. nozzles).

800–1,200 mPa∙s 55–60%

Makrolep A-5 Adhesive

A high-performance adhesive for bonding paper to difficult surfaces such as PP and PE films, based on water-based styrene-acrylic dispersions. It has pressure-sensitive adhesive characteristics. Used for bonding film windows into envelopes and decorative packaging. Safe to use, including for indirect food contact. Contains no organic solvents.

Application: production of decorative or food packaging, bonding difficult surfaces to paper.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. wheel, roller).

4,000–6,000 mPa∙s 55–60%

Makrolep A-36 Adhesive

A specialized adhesive for bonding paper and cardboard to difficult surfaces such as PP and PE films or coated surfaces. It is also used for paper-to-film lamination. Its very high solids content provides strong, fast initial grab and a very short setting time. It has pressure-sensitive adhesive characteristics.

Application: production of decorative or food packaging, bonding difficult surfaces to paper.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. roller).

5,000–8,000 mPa·s 65–70%

Makrolep ES-65 Adhesive

A high-performance adhesive paste based on a blend of unplasticized PVAc dispersion and styrene-acrylic copolymers, designed for bonding labels to metal cans and paper to difficult surfaces. It provides very strong initial grab thanks to adhesion-promoting additives and offers stable operating parameters on automatic gluing machines.

Application: packaging production, labeling machines, bonding difficult surfaces to paper and cardboard.
Application method: manual or machine application (e.g. stamp, roller).

Makrolep AX-105 Adhesive

A modern, high-quality adhesive paste for bonding difficult surfaces. Thanks to its rheological and stabilizing additives, it offers exceptional operating stability even under demanding conditions on high-performance machines. It does not leak or run through adhesive application mechanisms. It provides strong initial grab and excellent adhesion to polyolefin films (PP, PE), aluminum, waxed, and coated papers.

Application: bonding paper to difficult surfaces, paper-to-film lamination, bonding film windows into bags.
Application method: machine application (stamp, roller).

What Are “Difficult Surfaces” in the Packaging Industry?

In packaging production and printing, difficult substrates most commonly include coated paper and cardboard (varnished or gloss/matte laminated), plastic films, laminates, and materials with smooth, non-absorbent surfaces. The key adhesive properties in these applications are strong adhesion to non-absorbent substrates and bond flexibility.

Why Choose a Manufacturer Instead of a “Universal” Adhesive

Difficult substrates require a tailored formulation - one “universal” adhesive rarely performs well on every type of coating. As a manufacturer, we test adhesion to specific materials in our laboratory and select the right adhesive for your substrate.

Send us a sample of your laminated or coated material - we’ll test the bonding performance and provide a recommendation along with a sample for testing.

Film Adhesives

Our film adhesives bond paper to film and film to cardboard in packaging, covers, and laminated products. We select the adhesive to ensure a durable bond despite the non-absorbent nature of the substrate, while preventing deformation of thin films.

Suitable Materials

  • Varnished and laminated paper and cardboard
  • Plastic films and laminates
  • Smooth, coated, non-absorbent surfaces
  • Paper-to-film and film-to-cardboard bonding
